The Global Skills Index (GSI) by Coursera, a United States of America-based organisation that says it ‘provides universal access to the world’s best education, partnering with top universities and organizations to offer courses online,’ shows that Africa, like Latin America, Middle east and Asia-Pacific,
has ‘high skill inequality’.
According to Emily Glassberg Sands, Head of Data Science with Coursera, the GSI shows that:
- Demand for Technology and Data Science skills is growing, while demand for Business skills is shrinking
- Technology industry professionals lack strong business skills
- Manufacturing shows skills resilience in the digital era
- Telecommunications is the only industry to rank consistently in the top three across Business, Technology, and Data Science
- Finance surprises with below-average skills performance.
