Young Africans Invited to Apply for Filmmaking Mentorship

Talents Durban 2018 shall offer participants "focused mentorships, industry-specific expert masterclasses, workshops, and a creative platform for self-expression and networking."Emerging African screenwriters and directors with animation, fiction, documentary and hybrid projects in development are invited to apply for the 11th Talents Durban by April 6, 2018.

Scheduled for July 20 – 24, 2018 and held in the framework of the 39th annual Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), the 11th Talents Durban welcomes projects of all media formats such as film, television series, web series and content for mobile platforms.

Centre for Creative Arts (CCA) of University of KwaZulu-Natal that hosts The five-day event says it consists of workshops, discussions, screenings, and specialised programmes for specific disciplines including directing, scriptwriting and reviewing films for print and TV.

Talents Durban 2018 shall offer participants "focused mentorships, industry-specific expert masterclasses, workshops, and a creative platform for self-expression and networking."Saying Talents Durban will also covers accommodation, airfare and festival accreditation for participants, CCA says the programme, whose theme is ‘Breaking the Rules’, shall bring together “highly-skilled professionals” to explore ways in which to develop the animation industry, “stimulate conversation and inspire filmmakers into the world of animation.”

To be part of 11th Talents Durban, applicants are expected to “complete their application online provided they have a recognised sample of past work and an ongoing project,” CCA says.

CCA says the 11th Talents Durban shall also host ‘mentorship and hands-on training for emerging film critics in a programme called Talent Press.
