The awards ceremony of the Africa Movie Academy Awards shall be held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, on September 22, 2018.
The organisers of the Lagos (Nigeria)-based AMAA that was first held in 2005 say the government of Rwanda through the Rwanda Convention Bureau and Rwanda Tourism Bureau has accepted to host the event in line with its Africa integration agenda that saw it host the AMAA nominations gala event in Kigali in 2017.

According to a statement issued in Nigeria by Temitope Ajayi who handles publicity for AMAA on July 2, 2018, AMAA 2018 awards ceremony will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre in Kigali. But prior to the unveiling of the awardees, nominees from whom the winners shall drawn shall be announced on July 21, 2018.
Saying AMAA ‘AMAA is the longest running Pan-African awards in Africa’, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of the awards initiative says she and her team ‘have worked hard to keep and protect the integrity of the awards. The most interesting thing about AMAA this year is that visitors, especially Africans, will not struggle to get entry visa as all visas will be processed on arrival’.

Anyiam-Osigwe calls on other African countries to emulate Rwanda and have travel Visas issued on arrival if entry visas can’t be done away with.
“Our people will prosper and there will be shared prosperity when we can travel and do business easily across Africa,” she says.
Meanwhile AMAA, that says it recently hosted a social media training workshop in Kigali for young people as a Corporate Social Responsibility project, says Dorothy Wenner, a curator with Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), is Chair of the AMAA Jury in 2018.
